David Sklansky

Anyone who is into the online world of poker has most definitely heard the name David Sklansky. Anyone who has any backbone knowledge of the gambling industry has heard the name David Sklansky namely as he is such a big name. David Sklansky lives in Henderson Nevada, but was born and raised in Teaneck New Jersey. Sklansky attended the University of Pennsylvania, but dropped out before graduation. He then returned to his home town and became an actuary for a firm. He worked for this firm up until he began his poker career in his early 20’s.

David Sklansky and the World Series of Poker

David Sklansky was no tourist to most poker games since he became a professional gambler. Sklansky has won three World Series of Poker bracelets and who knows when he is due for his next. Sklansky owns a bracelet in $1,000 Draw High in 1982, $800 Mixed Doubles in 1982, and also $1,000 Limit Omaha in 1983. His winnings add up for a grand total of almost $50,000! That might not be that much compared to some of the prizes in large circuit events now, but that was still quite a bit in the poker world.

David Sklansky the Author

One of the best things that David Sklansky has done for the poker world is offered his knowledge in literature for other players to learn and better themselves from. David Sklansky is one of the best authors in the poker industry and has become one of the authorities in poker literature. No real poker player can say that they have not spent some time with their nose crammed in a Sklansky book.

Some of the most popular Sklansky books are even classified in the top five poker books around. With a total of 13 books about poker, Sklansky has 3 of which are on our top five list.

Hold’em Poker is a book about the basic fundamentals about hold’em poker. This is a must read if you plan to play hold’em. There are a lot of play theories that you need to know and apply in this book.

No Limit Hold’em: Theory and Practice is another great book by Sklansky. This book goes over a lot of the fundamentals of basic no limit hold’em play and theory that needs to be incorporated into your game.

Small Stakes Hold’em: Winning Big With Expert Play is a book about some of the more advanced concepts of hold’em. If you have read the other two on the list then this is a must read. There is much for a player of any caliber to learn from this book.
