Harrington on Hold’em Volume 2

Dan Harrington is one of the best tournament poker players of all time with his super tight style. “Action Dan” is the author of Harrington on Hold’em Volume 2, the second of the Harrington on Hold’em series. His first book goes into detail about how to play at the beginning of a tournament when everyone still has relatively equal stacks and the blinds are still small enough that you can play super tight and not have to really exert too much skill besides playing your great hands. Volume 2 goes much more into detail about when you are deep in the tournament and on the brink of making a large cash prize.

Dan Harrington is a well known no limit hold’em tournament player. He holds a bracelet for winning the 1995 World Series of Poker main event. He has also placed in the money multiple times and has also made the final table multiple times. Harrington is more than qualified to scribe these books to help any player become a winning tournament player.

The majority of the book talks about the observation necessary when you are deep into a multi table tournament. He talks about keeping an eye on player’s stack sizes and staying away from players that have more chips than you and the ability to knock you out of the tournament.

Dan also goes into detail about the bubble. The bubble is the time when players have almost reached the pay out. Players like to tighten up to ensure that they don’t get knocked out just before making the pay out. Harrington explains different ways of taking advantage of this so that you will have a larger stack going into the later rounds beyond the bubble.

At the end of the book Harrington explains a lot of different ideas involving heads up play. This helps for when a player makes it to the final two and has to play heads up against one opponent. The better player will normally walk out with the first place prize while his opponent who hasn’t read Harrington’s two part series is left choking on second.

Overall, Harrington really does an amazing job in this series to help players realize just what it takes to become successful like Harrington at big multi table tournaments. The book covers nearly every field possibly involved in tournament play, and can even carry over to cash tables. There are a few poker tips that can be slightly blurry for players who haven’t the experience with MTTs.

I do not recommend Harrington on Hold’em Volume 2 to a player without any prior knowledge of the game. There are a lot of terms that are used that are not defined in the book that someone without the prior history in tournaments would not understand. If the player does have a relative knowledge of the game then there will be no problems with comprehending everything that is explained in this book.

Harrington on Hold’em Volume 2 is a must have for any serious Texas Hold’em player’s collection. The book has just what the developing player needs to advance their game to a pro level. Get the Harrington on Hold’em series today. Don’t just skim through it, learn it and love it.
